Frequently Asked Questions
About Slate
What is Slate?
Slate is an agentic platform for organic growth. You set a goal, such as more citations in AI answers or more organic traffic, and Slate's agents find the work that moves it and carry it out across SEO, AI search, content and outreach.
Slate tracks Google and AI search performance, then puts that data to work: creating and refreshing pages, publishing to your CMS and earning links and mentions. Your team stays in charge of the calls that need human judgment.
Who is Slate built for?
Slate fits content-led companies that depend on organic discovery and already invest in SEO and content. Most customers are B2B SaaS teams between 20 and 500 people, and D2C and B2C brands use Slate as well.
It's a poor fit for pre-launch startups, teams that only grow through paid ads, and anyone looking for a one-click AI writer.
How is Slate different from Profound, AirOps or Ahrefs?
Each of those covers one slice. Visibility trackers like Profound show where you stand in AI search. Content workflow tools like AirOps run the pipelines you build and trigger. SEO suites like Ahrefs supply the data.
Slate brings tracking, data and execution into one place, and its agents start the work themselves against the goal you set.
Does Slate work for agencies?
Yes. TripleDart, a B2B SaaS marketing agency, built Slate and runs 100+ client accounts on it. Each client gets its own workspace, agents handle most of the delivery work, and you can audit a prospect's AI visibility before the first call.
The Agency plan starts at $2,000 a month, with custom plans for larger rosters. Agencies that refer clients can also join the partner program.
AI Search Visibility
Which AI search engines does Slate track?
Slate tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Claude and Gemini. Growth and Scale include the first four, with Claude and Gemini as an add-on. Custom plans include all six.
You can run prompts from any country and set the schedule to daily, weekly or monthly.
What does Slate measure in AI search?
Slate measures brand mentions, citations, share of voice, visibility score and sentiment for every prompt, by platform. You can see the sources each answer cites, the fan-out queries behind it, and how you compare with each competitor.
It also flags the articles and review sites where competitors get cited and you don't, and each gap can become a content or outreach task. Connect GSC and GA4 to see rankings and traffic alongside.
How is AI visibility tracking counted?
One AI answer is one prompt run once on one platform, so monthly usage is prompts × platforms × runs per month. For example, 100 prompts tracked on four platforms every week uses about 1,600 answers a month.
Growth includes 10,000 answers a month and Scale includes 20,000.
AI answers change every time. How reliable is the data?
A single AI response proves very little, because answers vary from run to run. Slate runs each prompt on a schedule and reports the trend across many answers, which shows direction with far more confidence than a manual spot check.
Every metric links back to the responses behind it. Prompts start from Slate's suggestions, and you can edit them or upload your own list as a CSV.
Content and Publishing
What content work can Slate do?
Slate covers research, SEO briefs, new articles, refreshes of decaying pages, programmatic pages, internal linking and page structure that AI engines can cite. It writes in most major languages.
Run it on one page or on thousands at once through Sheets. Refreshes come back with a color-coded view of new and edited text, and can repeat on a schedule.
Will the content sound like our brand, and will it rank?
Slate writes from your brand kit and knowledge base, and Memory learns from your team's edits over time. Before anything goes live, it fact-checks claims against your knowledge base and web sources and flags what it can't support.
Google judges content on quality and usefulness, however it was produced. You can add a human review step to any workflow, and Slate doesn't try to game AI detectors.
Can Slate publish straight to our CMS?
Yes. Slate publishes to Webflow, WordPress and Sanity, and to other CMSs through an API. In Webflow it can write to any CMS collection, from blog posts to case studies.
Static pages and custom setups may need a one-time setup with your developer.
Which AI models does Slate use, and can we bring our own keys?
Slate gives you 24+ models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Perplexity, with no separate subscriptions, and you pick the model for each workflow step.
You can also connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google keys, and model calls then run on your account instead of Slate credits.
Agents and Automation
What does it mean that Slate works toward a goal?
You give Slate a measurable outcome, like lifting AI citation share from 10% to 30% in three months. Slate watches for signals that matter to it, such as a traffic drop, a lost citation or a competitor gaining ground, and turns each one into a prioritized task.
Memory records your goals, decisions and past results, so every new plan draws on what worked before.
What is Cowork, and how do Workflows and Recipes fit in?
Cowork is the agent you work with inside Slate. Describe an outcome, such as "refresh the 40 pages that lost traffic this quarter," and it builds the workflow and returns finished work. You can also tag @Slate in Slack.
Workflows are multi-step processes built from blocks. Recipes package a repeatable job with review gates and run history, so it runs in one line or on a schedule.
Will Slate publish or send anything without my approval?
Only where you allow it. You choose which actions Slate takes on its own and which need sign-off, and you can place an approval step anywhere, for example before a page goes live or before outreach goes out.
Approval requests can reach you in Slack, and every change is logged.
Couldn't we build this ourselves with Claude, n8n or Zapier?
You can build parts of it. You'd also own the plumbing: connecting data sources, wiring up models, keeping it running when something breaks, and handing it over when the person who built it moves on.
Slate arrives with the data, agents and integrations already connected, and the setup belongs to your whole team.
Pricing, Trials and Plans
How much does Slate cost?
• Growth, $499/month: 15,000 credits, 10,000 AI answers and 1,000 pages monitored, for a single brand
• Scale, $999/month: 50,000 credits, 20,000 AI answers and 5,000 pages monitored, with priority support
• Custom: volumes, platforms and onboarding built around your team
Plans run month to month, and annual billing saves 20%. See the pricing page (https://slatehq.com/pricing) for the full comparison.
How do credits work?
Credits pay for workflow and agent work. A typical long-form article uses roughly 350 to 700 credits, depending on length and models, and credit history shows the cost of every run.
AI visibility tracking uses its own answers allowance, so content work never eats into it. Need more? Buy extra credit packs at any time without changing plan.
Is there a free trial or a pilot?
Yes to both. Every new account gets a 14-day free trial to try Slate on your own brand.
Teams that want to prove value on one goal first can start with a paid one-month pilot, set up with a GTM engineer, then continue month to month.
What happens on a demo?
The demo is a strategy call with the Slate team about how Slate would work for your brand. You also get an AI search audit of where your brand appears today and where competitors get cited instead.
Setup, Security and Support
What does Slate integrate with?
• Search data: Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs and Semrush, with Ahrefs and Semrush included at no extra cost
• CMS: Webflow, WordPress, Sanity, and others through the API
• Work tools: HubSpot, Slack and ClickUp
• Outreach and AI: email, LinkedIn through HeyReach, and Claude through MCP
How does onboarding work, and how soon will we see results?
Create a workspace for each brand, connect your tools, fill in the brand kit and review the suggested prompts. On Scale and Custom plans, a GTM engineer sets this up with you.
Visibility data arrives after the first tracking run, and rankings and citations respond over weeks to months. For example, Razorpay grew its visibility in Google AI results from 60% to 94% in about four months.
How does Slate handle our data?
You authorize each connection yourself and can disconnect any of them at any time. Your content and data are never used to train AI models, by Slate or by the model providers it works with.
For security reviews or a DPA, contact the Slate team.
What support do we get?
Growth includes live chat support. Scale adds priority support and a shared Slack channel, and Custom plans get white-glove onboarding and implementation.
Every plan includes Slate Academy, a set of short modules on getting the most from Slate.
