Knowledge Base is your workspace’s file storage. Upload documents here and Slate’s agents and workflows can read them — the File Search workflow block searches inside them, and Cowork uses them as grounding for its answers.

Where to Find It

Go to Assets → Knowledge Base in the sidebar.

Knowledge Base file storage

Uploading Files

  • Click Upload File, or drag and drop files anywhere on the page.
  • Any file type is accepted. Newly uploaded files show “Your file is being synced” while Slate indexes their contents.
  • If a file with the same name exists in the folder, Slate asks whether to replace it.
The header shows your storage used and total file count.

Organizing

  • Click New Folder to create folders; folder cards show their subfolder and file counts.
  • Use the folder menu to Open, Rename, Move, or Delete a folder, or toggle it between private and public.
  • Search with the Search files… box, and switch between list and grid views.

File Actions

Hover a file for a preview (images, PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, markdown, and text files) or open its menu:

Tags and Metadata

In File Information, add tags (up to 20 per file) and custom key-value metadata. Tags and metadata make files easier to target from the File Search workflow block’s filters.

How Slate Uses These Files

  • Workflows — the File Search block searches inside your uploaded files and returns the most relevant passages. It can target specific folders, file types, tags, and date ranges.
  • Cowork — the agent can read project files you upload, using them as its knowledge base for research and writing.

What’s Next
