The Team section lists everyone with access to a workspace. Admins use it to invite people, change roles, and remove members.

Why It Matters

A role decides which parts of Slate a person can open and change. Give each person the role that matches their work.

Where to Find It

  1. Click the Settings icon (sliders) on the sidebar rail.
  2. Choose Workspace settings.
  3. Click Team in the left menu.
The Members card shows each person’s Role and Status (Active or Invited). Use the All and Invited tabs to filter the list. A Search name or email box appears once the workspace has more than 8 members.

Roles

Slate has five workspace roles. The invite form shows these descriptions:
  • Admin — “Full access to all features and settings”
  • Member — “Can manage content and users with some restrictions”
  • Writer — “Can create and edit content”
  • Editor — “Can review and publish content”
  • Designer — “Can manage design assets and templates”
Writer, Editor, and Designer have the same access.

What each role can do

Some organization actions also depend on the person’s organization role. See Organization settings.

Invite Members

Only Admins see the Invite members button.
  1. On the Team page, click Invite members.
  2. Under Email addresses, type an address and press Enter or a comma. You can also paste a list. Each send takes up to 10 addresses.
  3. Under Role, pick a role. The default is Member.
  4. Click Send invite (or Send 3 invites, and so on).
Slate emails each person an invite. The results list shows “Invited as” and the role for each address that worked. If any address failed, the reason appears next to it. Click Edit and resend to fix and retry those addresses, or Done to close. Invites expire after 10 days.

Accept an Invite

The person you invite does these steps:
  1. Open the link in the invite email. Slate shows a Join page for the workspace.
  2. Choose the button that matches your situation:
    • Signed in with the invited email: click Accept Invitation.
    • Have a Slate account but not signed in: click Sign in to accept.
    • New to Slate: click Create account and accept.
  3. Slate opens the workspace.
If you’re signed in with a different email, Slate asks you to log out and sign in with the invited address. Click Logout to switch accounts.

Manage Pending Invites

Pending invites show the Invited status. Click the Invited tab to see only those.
  1. Click the ⋮ menu on the invite’s row.
  2. Choose an action:
    • Resend invite — emails the invite again. The original link keeps working, and the 10-day expiry restarts.
    • Cancel invite — the invite link stops working. Click Cancel invite again to confirm.
You can also change a pending invite’s role. Click the role in the Role column and pick a new one.

Change a Member’s Role

  1. On the Team page, click the member’s role in the Role column.
  2. Pick the new role.
When you change an Admin to another role, Slate asks you to confirm. Click Change role. You can’t change your own role.

Remove a Member

  1. Click the ⋮ menu on the member’s row.
  2. Click Remove from workspace.
  3. Click Remove member to confirm.
The person loses access to the workspace right away. You can invite them again later.

Troubleshooting

  • I don’t see Invite members, role menus, or the ⋮ menu. Only Admins can manage the team. Members see the list as read-only.
  • “User is already a member of this workspace.” The person already has access. Change their role instead.
  • “An invitation has already been sent to this email for this workspace.” Use Resend invite on the pending invite.
  • “Invalid or expired invite link.” The invite has expired. Ask an Admin to resend it, or to send a new one.
  • I want to leave a workspace. Admins and Members can leave from General → Danger zone. Writers, Editors, and Designers can’t open settings, so they ask an Admin to remove them.
