Search is Slate’s command palette. Use it to find things in your workspace, jump to a screen, or hand a question to Cowork.

Why It Matters

You can reach any screen, or start a Cowork conversation, from wherever you are in Slate.

Where to Find It

  • Click Search at the top of the sidebar.
  • Press ⌘K on Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows. Press it again to close Search.
The search box reads “Ask Slate Cowork, search pages, find actions, or jump to a feature…”.

Before You Type

Search opens with suggested questions under Slate Cowork, such as “Which keywords are losing rank?”. Below them are links to Slate screens, settings, and workflow templates. Click a suggestion to ask Cowork that question.

Search Results

As you type, results appear in groups: Results that fit no group, such as sheets and AI Visibility topics, appear under Other.
  1. Type your question.
  2. Select Ask Slate Cowork: “your question” and press Enter.
  3. Slate opens Cowork and starts a conversation with your question.
Cowork grounds its answer in your prompts, pages, citations, and workspace docs. If you open Search while viewing a Cowork conversation, your question continues that conversation.

Quick Answers

After you type three or more characters, Search may show a quick answer above the results. A quick answer can be a short reply, numbered steps, or a note that Cowork can help. Buttons under the answer open the related screen or hand the work to Cowork, such as Start with Slate Cowork or Analyze with Slate Cowork. When Slate is confident in its quick answer, the Ask Slate Cowork row can disappear. Use the quick answer’s buttons instead.

Keyboard Shortcuts

The first item is highlighted by default. If you press Enter right after typing, Slate runs the first quick-answer button. With no quick answer, it selects the top result, usually Ask Slate Cowork.

Troubleshooting

  • “Search is unavailable. You can still ask Slate Cowork.” Results didn’t load. Select the Ask Slate Cowork row to send your question anyway.
  • “No results.” Try fewer or different words, or ask Cowork.
