Why it matters
- See which step failed and why.
- Fix a failed step and continue the run instead of starting over.
- See how many credits each step and each run used.
Where to find it
Open the workflow details page in one of these ways:- On the Workflows page, click a published workflow. Clicking a draft opens the editor instead.
- In the workflow list, open a row’s menu and click View History.
- In the workflow editor, click History in the top toolbar. The History tab opens in a new browser tab.
Workflow details page
The page header has these buttons:- Add to sheet (published workflows only):
- Add to existing sheet: Pick a sheet, then a tab. Slate opens that tab with this workflow selected for a new workflow column.
- Create new sheet: Slate opens a new sheet, named after the workflow, in a new browser tab and adds the workflow to it. Allow pop-ups if your browser blocks the tab.
- Edit Workflow: Opens the workflow editor.
- Share: Opens the Share Workflow dialog.
- Workflow URL: Click the copy button to copy the page link.
- Download as JSON: Downloads the workflow’s name, description, and configuration as a
.jsonfile.
Workflow list menu
On the Workflows page, each row has a menu with these actions:Find a run
The Execution History list shows 15 runs per page and refreshes every 5 seconds. Use the arrow buttons next to the run count to change pages. Narrow the list with these controls:- Include test runs: Checked by default. Test runs show a Test badge.
- Status filter (shows Any by default): Choose Running, Completed, Awaiting Review, Awaiting Retry, Failed, or Cancelled.
- Time range: Choose Last 30 minutes, Last 2 hours, Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 30 days (default), or All Time.
- Columns: Show or hide Runtime and Source. Status and Triggered always show.
Run statuses
Open a run
- Click a run in the list, or click View on its row.
- The run panel opens on the right. The header shows the run ID, status, and progress, such as “Step 2/5.”
- Switch between the tabs:
- Output: The final output of the run.
- Logs: Each step in order. Click a step to see its Step ID, Credits Used, Start Time, End Time, Output Data, Messages, and Error Details.
- Input: The inputs the run started with.
- General: Timing (Duration, Started) and Progress (Total Steps, Completed Steps, Credits Used).
- Click the expand button to view the panel full screen. Press Esc to exit full screen.
Retry a failed step
When a step fails, the run pauses with the status Awaiting Retry. The run waits up to 2 days for a retry. After 2 days, the run ends as Failed.- Open the run.
- Click Retry from failed step in the run header. Or, on the Logs tab, expand the failed step and click Retry from here next to Error Details.
- In the Retry failed step dialog, choose one option:
- Retry unchanged: Runs the failed step again with the same settings.
- Edit configuration: Opens Edit block and retry, where you change the step’s settings first.
Edit block and retry
- Change the block’s settings. Blocks without a visual editor show their configuration as JSON.
- Under If this retry fails, choose Wait for another retry (default) or Skip this step.
- Click Save and retry. Click Back to return without retrying.
Edits apply only to this retry. Your saved workflow version doesn’t change. To fix the step for future runs, edit the workflow and publish a new version.
Runs waiting for credits
Before each step, Slate checks the workspace’s credit balance. If fewer than 5 credits are available, the run pauses with Awaiting Retry before that step. The run header shows Insufficient credits and the reason:- Workspace limit reached: “This workspace has reached its credit limit. Increase this workspace’s credit limit or wait for the next billing period.”
- Balance too low: The message shows how many credits remain.
- Add credits, or increase the workspace’s credit limit. Admins add credits, and organization Owners and Admins set workspace limits. See Billing and usage.
- Open the run and click Retry from failed step.
- Click Retry unchanged.
Tips
- If the same step fails often, fix it in the editor and publish. Retry edits don’t carry over to future runs.
- Click Stop on runs you don’t plan to retry, so they don’t stay in Awaiting Retry.
- Clear Include test runs to see only live runs.
